Duality: Contemporary Works by Indigenous Artistsfeaturing works by renowned Indigenous American artists, runs through May 14, 2023 at the Longmont Museum. This contemporary Native American art exhibit is curated by Gregg Deal, a member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and a nationally-recognized artist and advocate known for his critiques of society and popular culture. Admission is free for museum members (as well as children 3 and under) and costs $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

A few of the artists featured include Steven Yazzie, April Holder, Gregg Deal, Chelsea Kaiah, Natani Notah, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Danielle SeeWalker, JayCee Beyale, Virgil Ortiz, and Nicholas Galanin. The art ranges from paintings, ceramics, and beadwork to sculpture, video, and other mediums.

While this exhibit is heavy on Indigenous tradition, it also aims to change the way people view Native American art, sharing pictures, stories, and insight and offering visitors surprises they might not expect. It also strives to encourage people to recognize the contribution of Indigenous cultures to both society and the contemporary art world. Of course, it touches on duality, as well, and the shared experiences, uniqueness, and balance of being both Indigenous and American.
