Cinco de Mayo, occurring on May 5th each year, recognizes Mexico’s victory over Napoleon and the Second French Empire in 1862. In the modern day, the holiday has become synonymous with honoring Mexican-American culture and has grown extremely popular in the US. There are several places to celebrate the holiday all over the state, some in Longmont or nearby, including the following:
Longmont Celebrates Cinco De Mayo
Longmont Celebrates Cinco De Mayo takes place at Roosevelt Park on Saturday, May 4th. In its 21st year, this celebration features food, shopping, a breakdance competition, live music and entertainment, family-centric activities, and a car show. It starts at 11:00 am and ends at 6:00 pm.
The Passenger
The Passenger, a restaurant located on Main Street in Longmont, is hosting a Cinco De Mayo celebration on May 5th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This event will feature an acoustic performance of Latin music by Aquiles, as well as drink and food specials.
Denver Cinco De Mayo Festival
The Denver Cinco De Mayo Festival might be a bit of a drive from Longmont, but the adventure is well worth it. One of the largest celebrations around, it takes place over two days (May 4th and 5th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm) at Civic Center Park. The festival is packed full of Mexican culture, entertainment, kid-friendly activities, parades and pageantry, food, local artisans, and unique contests (such as a taco-eating contest and chihuahua races).
Nissi’s Cinco De Mayo Party
Nissi’s, a concert venue located in Lafayette, is hosting a Cinco De Mayo party on May 4th. The party features Latin Sol, a high-energy, diverse, and highly experienced super group that plays a vast array of R&B, funk, cumbia, and more with both old-school and new-school twists. The show is limited to the 21 and over crowd and tickets range in price from $15 to $25.
